Country music
has many forms and I think mine is different to any other country music.
If you were to compare my music to other country artists music, I guess
you might say that it resembles a blend between Buck Owens, Merle Haggard
and George Jones and I wouldn't blame you for drawing that conclusion
because I was in fact heavily influenced by those artists through my
childhood and youth. I started out as a singer / clarinet player in a
band in 1971 and then progressed on to other things.
At the same time I started
experimenting with writing and composing country music which basically
were stories about my own experiences with life. So while I was in bands
my forte was firmly entrenched in country music and that's what I
excelled in. My band days ended in 2005 because I was not satisfied with
the mundane gigs I played at. I wanted something different, I wanted a
change and most of all I wanted recognition just as every aspiring
artist would hope for in their music career and in 2006 I made a
decision to go country all the way.
I recorded two cover CD’s titled, “I’ll
share my world with you”
and a “Tribute”
to the late and great, “Buck
Owens” just to
test the waters. I wanted to see how my music would be accepted on radio
and whether all those years of playing in bands would hold me in good
stead and hold it did. Radio stations in Australia started playing
tracks from these two CD's, people were requesting songs from them and
also buying my CD's. It was the performance of those CD's which prompted
a couple of country music DJ's to send my cover CD's to contacts known
to them in the USA and then presto, I got a call from a country music
producer from Nashville. Those two CD’s potentially scored me a record
deal in Tennessee with an indie record label titled
“Universal
Sound Records”
which eventuated in November 2006. The experience I went through in
Nashville was awesome to say the least. At last I was on the threshold
of fulfilling a secret childhood dream. I cannot begin explaining all of
the things that took place in Nashville because there is too much to
write about, but that trip opened doors for me around the world. I had a great
country album titled, “A
High Price for low livin”
recorded there backed up by some of the best musicians and back up singers
in the country music business which was released in 2007. The album was produced by
T.
Jae Christian of Universal Sound Records
and promoted by him worldwide. My goal of gaining recognition as a
country artist was beginning to be achieved with the airplay this album
has been receiving from then till now.
Of the 10 original and two cover songs on the album, three have been
written and composed by myself while the others were written and composed
by country music writers in Tennessee.
The
album was recorded
by Mark
Moseley, the leading recording
engineer at his Sound Control
Studio in Nashville who also
happens to be a one time guitarist for the late Buck Owens. The dynamics of the album are testimony to
Marks superiority in engineering an album of unsurpassed standards.
Mentioned
below are excerpts of comments made by T Jae Christian in his
correspondence to me prior to going to Nashville. “I
was delighted with your vocal performances, and knew right away that I
could record a great country album on you here in Nashville!."
You’re
a fine country artist and a fine man also. I'm surely looking forward to
recording a great album on you, and I know it will be a new shining
star
in your life!
You’re
a special
I
believe that the key to success in this industry is in setting high standards for
oneself and working hard to please my audiences. I have a huge fan base in
Melbourne, Sydney and Perth where I have performed on several occasions. I
am receiving attention through some sources to help me along this
journey but I can assure you that a helping hand from any other source
will be more than welcome. I guess my kind of country music would appeal
more to a mature audience and I sincerely hope to be able to meet some
of them at a gig soon and show my appreciation of their support,
Thanking You
